Coming winter will be crucial for Europe's energy sector

The winter of 2023-2024 will act as a litmus test for the European energy market, and any harsh winter conditions are likely to test the EU's gas storage reserves. Since storage capacity typically decreases by 50-60 percentage points during a European winter, Norwegian imports are unlikely to be able to compensate for the Russian gas shortage.

To manage demand, the European Commission also launched the "Save Energy" campaign in May 2022 to guide member states in devising the best, most individualized ways to reduce their energy consumption.
In addition, the Commission also proposed a new legislative mechanism and a European gas demand reduction plan in July 2022 and adopted the Gas Demand Reduction Regulation on August 5, 2022.

Many European markets are planning grid expansions to accommodate rapidly growing renewable energy.
Electricity is critical, and because smart grids are more sensitive to outages, there is an increasing focus on power quality to measure and prevent these outages.
