JBR Mandaat organizes Mandaat evenings to share knowledge

On November 10 we organized a Mandaat evening discussing the different forms of 'alternative debt financing'.

With both familiar and new faces, it was a very interactive Mandaat evening with great discussions. Where in the past it was almost self-evident to go to 'the banks' for loan capital, in the year 2022 this is no longer self-evident and parties like BeeQuip and Floryn have jumped into this gap. Or as they put it themselves; 'they have shown the market that things can be done differently'.

The introduction by Frank Steenhuisen immediately gave a nice frame of reference. On the one hand an overview of the different forms of alternative financing and on the other hand a clear picture of which type of financing can be of added value for which companies. As a former (special management) banker and Financial Restructuring Specialist, he illuminated this from different angles.

Sven van der Biezen then gave us a look into 'his world' with different forms of alternative business financing for SMEs. The lack of speed and flexibility of traditional financiers was discussed several times. It was abundantly clear that the Artificial Intelligence driven risk engine is Floryn's big differentiator. The picture in which the various parties in the market were placed in quadrants (high vs. low rate and low vs. high tech) also provided the attendees with much insight.

Joris Linders then took the audience through the business model and the strongly growing market of equipment leasing. By choosing a very clear niche, in combination with a very high degree of automation, BeeQuip also has a great advantage over traditional financiers. In particular, the insight into the differences between the risk exposure of new and used equipment gave a clear insight into the financial opportunities offered by this form of financing.

As the final speaker, Hans Wielinga took those present through his experiences with the various forms of financing he has had to deal with in the many 'distressed' assignments he has done. With his typical down-to-earth approach and humor, he painted a clear picture of where financiers can make the difference between success and failure.

During the plenary Q&A, but also during the walking dinner that followed, there were extensive discussions about the future of the financing market and in particular the big differences in the use of Artificial Intelligence in the KYC process between the traditional banks and fintechs such as Floryn and BeeQuip.
