This year will be a crucial year for the European energy sector for several reasons. The armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine makes Europe's energy security uncertain, but it also gives impetus to Europe's transition to renewable energy sources.

Renewable energy, such as solar and wind, is expected to become increasingly important in the European Union's energy mix, since the Russian invasion of Ukraine has prompted countries to reduce their dependence on energy from Russia. In addition, LNG imports will be used and a (brief) revival of coal in the energy mix is foreseen.
