Regiolabunifies existing services and is phased in
Regiolab builds on the existing Streeklab Haarlem Foundation, which currently already provides medical microbiology for both the Spaarne Gasthuis and the Rode Kruis Ziekenhuis. This foundation forms the foundation of the new regional organization.
In the course of 2026, the Red Cross Hospital, subject to approval by the NZa, the WFZ and the CSZ, will also transfer the clinical chemistry laboratory to Regiolab. Subsequently, the production capacity for clinical chemistry will be further scaled up, so that Regiolab can also integrate the clinical chemical diagnostics of the Spaarne Gasthuis, enabling Regiolab to soon provide a complete and integrated diagnostic package for both hospitals, for both primary and secondary care. This includes full laboratory diagnostics in the field of medical microbiology and clinical chemistry.
During this transition, the continuity of patient care remains paramount. Subject matter experts, employees and stakeholders will be actively involved in setting up the new organization to ensure a careful and future-proof transition.
Future-proof regional diagnostics
The cooperation marks an important development in a market where laboratory services are increasingly being consolidated by large, international commercial parties. With the establishment ofRegiolabthe healthcare organizations involved consciously choose a powerful regional alternative. They are committed to bundling local expertise, guaranteeing continuity of care and strengthening sustainable cooperation within the region. In doing so, they are creating a future-proof structure that better meets the needs of patients, referring physicians and hospitals in North Holland, and that offers room for further substantive innovation and joint quality development.
From orientation to agreement
JBR guided Stichting Streeklab Haarlem from the start of the initial cooperation orientation in 2025. During this phase, JBR developed several scenario analyses and supported the organizations involved in shaping a shared vision for the future of regional laboratory diagnostics. This shared vision was then developed into a business case, carefully mapping both the feasibility of the project and the intended transition.
In addition, JBR was closely involved in the process surrounding the proposed takeover of the Red Cross Hospital's clinical chemical laboratory. All this ultimately led to the creation of a cooperation agreement, which marks the formal starting point of this special regional cooperation.
"It is special to be able to guide a process like this from A to Z," says Caspar van der Geest, Partner JBR Corporate Finance. "We have seen up close how three organizations have grown together from the same regional commitment. The way they have shaped their joint ambition shows great commitment and trust. It is motivating to see how this cooperation will soon strengthen the region."
